Like many Australians, our founders experienced firsthand the crushing weight of housing unaffordability. Watching friends and family struggle with impossible rent prices while feeling increasingly isolated, they asked a simple question: “What if there’s a better way?”
After years of research, community building, and testing, PeoplePurposePlace was born – not as a business venture, but as a movement to reclaim housing as a human right rather than a commodity.

Is this some kind of hippy commune?
Not at all. This is a modern, practical housing solution where residents maintain complete personal autonomy while choosing to combine resources and community. Everyone has private space and personal freedom.
What if I don’t get along with other residents?
We use proven community-building processes and conflict resolution methods. Plus, our screening process ensures compatibility, and there are clear agreements about community standards and communication.
How is this financially secure?
Some models start as simply as a long-term affordable rent, all the way through to ownership models that include tried and true legal frameworks to enable rent-to-buy, part ownership, or investment.
What about privacy and personal space?
Each resident has their own private bedroom and ensuite access. Shared spaces are by choice, not a requirement. Many residents describe having more practical privacy than in traditional share houses.
Is this actually legal and legitimate?
Absolutely. We work within existing legal frameworks and collaborate with housing lawyers, financial advisors, and community development experts to ensure everything is above board.
