PeoplePurposePlace held its official Move-In Day for the first of its pilot projects: 42 Ginn Road, Malanda.
When does a complex, novel idea launch without a few bobbles and burbles along the way?
NEVER!

And so it has been with the successful start to moving new residents into their brand-spanking new home.
Move-In Day: Busy day At Ginn Rd
Investor and owner of the pilot, Christine Doan, says, “We knew we had a lot to learn from our first pilot project, but we had no idea exactly how much! What a feast of discarded ‘great’ ideas, mistakes, learnings, blown-out deadlines and budgets, we have had! With dogged determination, our Atherton Team and Darren Finlay, originator of the concept, have stuck with this novel variation in housing to a successful Move-In Day!”
The five new residents are taking each misstep in their stride with positivity and patience: the Starlink didn’t quite do what was imagined, the builder’s cleaner missed out on a mop-job, a factory-deficient tile stood out, the fridge turned up a day late, the Atherton Team was running hard to keep ahead of all of the urgencies!
The Team navigated the complex paperwork they had spent countless hours fine tuning with a solicitor, document every step in a process that seemed to have more steps than a European bell tower, and continually remind themselves that every decision from now on will be done by collaborative decision making with the residents.
One resident who prefers to remain anonymous said, “That tiny Team was so assiduous in looking after our every need, accompanying us through every step of some long and involved processes, and answering every question at least 5 times. They kept up an unremitting dedication to making this transition as easy as possible, a transition they themselves had never taken part in until now! This was not just a transition from one dwelling to another; it was a transition from a ‘normal’ home lifestyle to a collaborative one. Lots to learn on all sides!”
Darren Finlay wrapped it all up with, “My dream has become reality. I’m now going to dedicate my efforts to the next project, to the successful evolution of collaboration in this household, and to finding more local solutions to our collective housing crisis.”
