Below are some of the more frequent faq people purpose place has been asked.
Construction Specifically
What stage is your project at in its development?
People Purpose Place is actively rolling out two projects on the Atherton Tablelands: a new build, almost complete, and a renovation in early development. Other projects are close to coming to fruition. First meetings with potential residents are being held and workshops are in the developmental stage, close to roll out.
What knowledge, expertise and experience do you bring to your project?
Over 30 years experience in construction/design.
Extensive experimentation in more sustainable and human-centric building design, including 10 star and more affordable solutions.
Deep exploration of group formation, development and true collaboration to ensure more harmonious and enduring ‘homeholds’.
In the development of the People Purpose Place concept, the best practice apogee of the above experimentation in human-centric small group living, starting with elders, essential workers and any other small groups that show a true propensity for their group to form/forge agreements/learn deep collaboration and establish a new basis for broader community development, one ‘homehold’ at a time.
Are you a builder?
No, we are not builders. Our primary role is to guide and coach you throughout your journey to finding or creating your ideal home. Along the way, we collaborate with various specialists, including builders, who bring their specific expertise to the project. Think of us as your coach—much like in sports, where your main coach oversees your progress. You might consult a physio for specialized support during injury recovery.
Construction Financial Impacts
How much does it cost?
Delivering an intentional solution means that this will be within the occupants financial means. However we would say that there is a large cost to learn new thinking about our understanding of homes. This cost is typically not financial but addressing such questions as “Why is it acceptable that more than half of our households are financially stressed about their shelter.”
Is this affordable housing?
Not exactly. Our focus is on creating well-designed, intentional homes that meet the specific needs of their residents. While some might perceive a particular home as “affordable,” the term can be subjective and challenging to define in a simple response. We encourage you to explore your own perspective on what affordability means to you. Each home we create is carefully designed to be within the financial means of its residents, making it “affordable” in that context. However, it’s important to understand that this isn’t the same as the traditional notion of affordable housing as often labeled by journalists or the media.
As you begin your journey with People Purpose Place, these FAQs might spark deeper conversations within yourself and your family. We welcome this dialogue, as it can lead to greater insights and help you achieve your ideal intentional home.

Types of Construction
Is this a tree house?
Really? No. In time we will build solutions out of many and varied solutions. Perhaps building out of shipping containers. Perhaps repurposing existing homes and many and varied options will arise. As attributed to William of Occam a medieval monk. “The simplest solution is usually the best.”
People Specifically
What is the environmental or social challenge you are aiming to address?
People Purpose Place puts people first, addressing the diabolical dilemma of the housing crisis and the increasing social challenge of loneliness and isolation. People are matched with housing solutions, providing them with resources and training to enhance relationships. This project represents more than just housing; it’s a movement towards creating diverse and dynamic homes by focusing first on people and their purpose and then on the building. The first building is designed for minimal impact, safeguarding rehabilitated land, integrated into tropical bush functioning as a wildlife corridor. Using low thermal density material and good orientation, the dwelling achieves 8.5-Star energy rating.
Housing Crisis
How does People Purpose Place address the Housing Crisis?
People Purpose Place demonstrates how collaboration, creative design, and socially conscious funding can result in reasonably priced, environmentally friendly homes that serve the larger community. The continuous work on age-in-place plans, cooperative investment schemes, and local development initiatives, like the Ginn Road project in Malanda, FNQ, demonstrates real influence on housing accessibility and affordability.. People Purpose Place addresses the psychological and social effects of housing isolation, loneliness, and the need for community connection in addition to the housing affordability dilemma. The creative designs consider sustainability, community spirit, and well-being to make homes more than just places to live. They ensure that residents can thrive.
The project demonstrates that a high-performance house can be achieved without undue extra cost with considered, climate-appropriate design and carefully chosen materials. From a construction perspective, PeoplePurposePlace opted for insulated
lightweight construction material to achieve a low thermal density. The timber framed structure will ensure an aesthetic balance and good durability.
Importantly, it is about more than the mere construction of a house. It’s about rethinking the very essence of home and community. This effort is essential in a society where social isolation has become a major concern.
It can and must work for you specifically
Can People Purpose Place help anyone get a house?
People Purpose Place is an NFP specifically established to assist those at risk of housing insecurity in developing their strategies by working with organisations that deliver Community Housing solutions.
What do you mean by a great home?
A home designed to suit your best intentions. Ideally allowing you to be the greatest version of yourself. Just consider your intention when moving to were you are currently located. Did you imagine that selecting this location would facilitate you becoming the best father, son, daughter, landscape gardener that you were destined to be? Or did you say, yes I can endure the financial costs of this property and the purple wallpaper will grow on me!
Who will be our facilitator?
We have a collection of professionals but ultimately we want the best fit for your journey. It is natural for this to evolve across time as we see in other aspects of our life. About Us covers our primary group of facilitators.
A Collaborative Purpose
What are themes would describe People Purpose Place?
Inclusion and equity. Sustainability and environment. Human, civil and legal rights.
What do you mean about inclusion and equity?
Inclusion and equality are key factors for People Purpose Place. Householders and their relationships are the primary factors in finding a common purpose and then building/renovating to suit the people. Included are frameworks that allow groups to form and allow space for self and privacy.
How do you mean human rights?
People Purpose Place addresses the human right to shelter. The inability to provide this to every member of our society betrays this right.
How do you address sustainability and the environmental impacts?
Each building is designed for a high energy rating, minimal environmental impact, and maximal interaction with nature. The financial sustainability of projects and the whole concept are considered. It can be upheld in perpetuity without exploitation.
Can we invest in People Purpose Place?
Sure. We are a not for profit business and our charter is to provide housing solutions. In most instances these solutions should be self funding but there are costs to develop each (bespoke) solution to meet the stakeholder needs. These costs of development are not large. These costs are necessary to ensure a best practice great home is delivered.
Legal, Government, Financial Frameworks
Can you provide a brief description of your project?
People Purpose Place is a Queensland-based non-profit organisation that provides ground-breaking and promising innovative housing/homing projects. People Purpose Place shapes tomorrow, transforming traditional housing to foster optimal individual & communal homes, actively creating collaborative building solutions for the housing crisis today and innovating into the future. Through collaboration, best practice is possible.
Describe your project’s current level of funding?
Most of the group’s developments are self funded with a minor amount of grant funding. The first investor jumped in one year ago and is funding both current Atherton Tablelands projects. Investors are involved in other projects; more are interested. New builds and renovations are designed utilising People Purpose Place’s specific principles.
Charity Status
Are you a housing charity?
No. We are a not for profit business. Our purpose is to develop solutions from within the community and within the specific stakeholders for each home. This should be within the means of participants. Yes this is valuable. This value needs to be paid for.
Is this social housing?
No. While we can empathize with the plight of those who rely on social housing outcomes we are not the Government. At present social housing is squarely in the space of Government delivery with public funds. Where people have medical, or addiction, or other significant issues it is right and proper that they be provided safe secure and stable shelter. We believe that Governments will remain the correct place for Social housing for some time still.
